CLAUDIO RANIERI is confident Jamie Vardy will stay even if Leicester fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
The England international has attracted interest from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks after a stunning start to the campaign.
The 28-year-old striker has bagged 14 goals so far, which included a record run of 11 consecutive games, to guide Leicester to second in the table.
And asked if the Foxes need to achieve a top four spot to keep Vardy, boss Ranieri said: "I think that he is a smart guy. He knows that this season we have to avoid relegation. That's our first target.
"Then, obviously, the more we do the more chances there are for him to stay. But he also knows that here he is like a king – everybody loves him.
"If you join another team instead, he might play one game but not the following one, so you may have regrets.
"He will think about what he wants to do because Leicester are destined to grow and to reach the top level in the Premier League."
