Mesut Ozil has begun talks with Arsenal over a new £160,000 a week deal |
MESUT OZIL has begun talks with Arsenal over a new contract, according to reports.
The German has been in sensational form for Arsenal this season, and already has four goals and 13 assists, the most of any player in Europe.
He has lifted the Gunners to second place in the league while he helped them comeback from a tough position to qualify for the Champions League last 16.
And The Sun claim the 27-year-old, whose current deal runs out in 2018, is looking for a new deal with Arsene Wenger's side as he wants to increase his wage by £20,000 to £160,000 a week.
Ozil's decision to sign a new deal is in stark contrast from the summer where Arsenal felt the World Cup winner wanted to leave the club after an uninspiring first two seasons.
The German is believed to have indicated to his agent in July that he wanted a move back abroad.
But the ex-Real Madrid star has now settled in north London and has seemingly had a change of heart.
An Arsenal source said: “Mesut is finally being played in the number ten role on a consistent basis.
“This is clearly his preferred position and now Arsenal are reaping the rewards. He has been in scintillating form so far this season.”
