QUIQUE SANCHEZ FLORES has backed Remi Garde's decision to drop Jack Grealish from Aston Villa's squad - but says young players need to make mistakes in order to learn.
Watford boss Flores believes Villa counterpart Garde had to draw a line after playmaker Grealish failed to return to Birmingham with his team-mates after the side's 4-0 thrashing at Everton last Saturday.
"I understand the decision of the coach or the clubs when something strange happens out of the profession," said Flores. "The behaviour of the player is not the best behaviour representing the club, but I understand this is not my club and not my player.
"Sometimes players, younger players, younger persons, they need to make mistakes and they need to learn about these mistakes."
Villa have just five points and their solitary win this season came on the opening day at Bournemouth. But Garde insists he has not taken over a sinking ship.
"Only when it's done with mathematics can you accept things like that and we are not at that point," he said.
"We are five points away from safety and, for the moment, that is not something that's unreachable.
"I understand that people outside will bet on us being in this position at the end of the season but I really think we have the possibility to close the gap."
"I don't see any players fed up about the situation or what I am asking of them, not at all."
