MANCHESTER UNITED and England legend Paul Scholes has fanned the flames of his feud with Louis van Gaal by criticising the way he runs the team.
Scholes has already hit out at the Dutchman this season when he claimed the side lacked creativity.
But Van Gaal reacted angrily to the former United midfielder's comments, asking why he didn't initially come directly to the manager, or even coach Ryan Giggs, with his advice.
And now Scholes has accused Van Gaal of putting his own legacy above the history and tradition of the football club.
"There’s been talk of a philosophy, a process," said Scholes.
“Manchester United don’t need a philosophy.
“The fans want to see attacking football and goals – that’s the Manchester United way.
“It hasn’t been great for 13 months but I’d better not say too much because Louis might be listening."
Since retiring, Scholes has made his name as an uncompromising pundit, and Van Gaal, as manager of the club he spent his whole career at, has inevitably fallen foul of the midfielder's tongue.
United's form has hardly been stellar this season, with home games dominated by cries of 'attack, attack, attack', so Scholes has been far from Van Gaal's soul detractor.
But the former playmaker proved he isn't only capable of criticism, praising the breakthrough of Jesse Lingard, who has just received his first call up to the England senior squad after Michael Carrick and Jamie Vardy both pulled out with injury.
"It’s been good to see Jesse in the team," Scholes added.
"It’s good to see a young lad come through the ranks and do well.
"I thought he was United’s best player against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League recently."
