CHRIS SMALLING claims Luke Shaw was in 'good spirits' after breaking his leg against PSV Eindhoven in September.
The 20-year-old left-back suffered the career threatening injury in the 2-1 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven when he and Hector Moreno collided in the first half.
Shaw has since been on the road to recovery with United enforcing a strict daily routine to get the England international back fit and playing again.
However, Louis van Gaal has since given the defender time off due to the struggles with keeping up with his daily routine as he prepares himself for a scan on Friday.
And Smalling revealed what state of mind Shaw was in after his injury.
“Soon after it he was in good spirits," the 26-year-old told United's official site.
Smalling also claimed Shaw is doing everything right to recover from his setback.
“Obviously it is very hard for him but he likes to be in amongst the lads because he has got some progress going. He is in the pool, he on the bike and he is in the gym. He’s on the right road and he’s a happy soul, which is good to see.”
PSV fans will unveil a 'get well soon' banner in support of Shaw at Old Trafford tonight, where victory for United will ensure qualification to the knockout stages.
