MICROSOFT has said it enabled the optional Windows 10 upgrade by mistake.

Microsoft has always downloaded the 6GB installer for its new operating system onto any PC eligible to upgrade to Windows 10 for free – but now the firm has taken it a step further.
 
Until now Windows 10 would appear as an optional update in the Windows Update app but Microsoft is now enabling the new OS by default.
The optional operating system upgrade is now ticked by default in Windows Update – which makes it easier to upgrade by mistake.
However Microsoft has admitted the aggressive push to Windows 10 was a mistake.

The technology firm told blog Ars Technica: "As part of our effort to bring Windows 10 to existing genuine Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers, the Windows 10 upgrade may appear as an optional update in the Windows Update (WU) control panel.
"This is an intuitive and trusted place people go to find Recommended and Optional updates to Windows. 
"In the recent Windows update, this option was checked as default; this was a mistake and we are removing the check."
 
Fortunately the Windows 10 installer does need human intervention before it upgrades your PC, so you are extremely unlikely to open your laptop and find it running Windows 10.
But if you are not paying attention and rattling through a slew of Windows updates, you may find yourself being upgraded sooner than you hoped.
Windows 10 has already been installed on 110 million devices within the last 11 weeks.
But the transition from older system to the latest version of Microsoft's operating system has been far from painless.
