Shenmue 3 on Xbox One is a subject worth raising with Yu Suzuki

XBOX ONE fans curious on whether Shenmue 3 - announced for PS4 and PC at E3 - will ever arrive on the Microsoft console, have been given an update of sorts from the title’s director, Yu Suzuki.

The game that was always rumoured but never shown at E3, finally materialised during the PlayStation conference and was followed by a hugely successful kickstarter campaign.

Fans quickly got behind the project which has an estimated delivery date of December 2017.

Several updates in the past have included questions surrounding whether the game could ever appear on Xbox One, what with the Shenmue 3 project being provided support from Sony PlayStation.

But it appears that the game has a complicated relationship with several parties, with Suzuki revealing more on how SEGA come into the picture.

"It’s difficult to explain," Suzuki told Dualshockers.

"I am the one who created Shenmue, so Sega allows me to take decisions for the game.

“They trust me because I know more about the workings of the game more than anyone else.

 

“There were no problems. Sega is very helpful and collaborative with me. They hope the best for Shenmue III. I actually still work for Sega as an adviser, so we have a very good relationship.”

Suzuki also provided an update of sorts on Shenmue on the Xbox One, appearing to suggest that talks with Microsoft have happened during the last year.

"I’ll let you use your imagination on this one,” Suzuki replied when asked about if discussion with Microsoft executives had occurred. 

 

Shenmue’s kickstarter managed to reach its set goal of $2 million in less than 12 hours and hit 5.5m before the end date set for July 18, 2015.

A top pledge worth $10,000 included dinner with Yu Suzuki in Los Angeles and a Ryo replica jacket.

“Bring a friend to join a dinner party in Los Angeles with Yu-san and the other backers of this tier. (Date will be tentatively set for June, 2016). + Be named as a Special Sponsor in the credits,” the official pledge description reads.
