John Terry started in defence during Chelsea's 3-1 loss to Southampton yesterday |
JOHN TERRY insists Jose Mourinho can turn Chelsea's season around - but he needs the players' help to achieve it.
Chelsea are four points off the relegation places after a disastrous start to their Premier League title defence.
Four defeats in eight games, including a 3-1 loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge yesterday, saw Chelsea slump even further behind leaders Manchester City.
Yesterday Mourinho himself said he would not quit and that owner Roman Abramovich would have to sack him if he wanted rid.
And captain Terry expressed his desire for the boss to stay on.
"I have been here a long time and I have seen managers come and go and if anyone is going to get us out of this hole it is going to be Jose Mourinho," Terry said.
"The players will remain together and fight, and keep fighting for the supporters because they were excellent on Saturday.
"We are not in the familiar position we are normally in.
"We find ourselves in it and it is down to the group of players and the manager to get ourselves out of it and we must do that very soon."
Next up for Chelsea is a home clash for Aston Villa after the international break, before they travel to Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League.
They then play away at West Ham in the league and Stoke in the Capital One Cup, before hosting Liverpool at the end of the month.
