Harry Kewell faces old club Leeds in charge of Watford's U21s |
HARRY KEWELL will face former club Leeds today in charge of Watford U21s.
The former Australia international took up the position as the youth team coach at Vicarage Road in August.
A surprise appointment, it's the former Liverpool star's first coaching position and so far he's struggled to find his feet.
The 37-year-old didn't win any of his first seven games in charge, but eventually tasted victory against Nottingham Forest last month.
Kewell was shunned by the fans following his move to Galatasaray |
And he will no doubt be hoping to continue his winning ways with a win over his former club today (1.30pm).
The midfielder famously fell out of favour with the club's loyal supporters following his transfer to Galatasaray.
Two Leeds fans were killed ahead of a Uefa Cup clash between the two sides, and he has never been forgiven for making the move to the Turkish giants.
He told the Guardian in August: "It’s all about opinions [the transfer to Galatasaray] but my idea was about bringing the clubs together.
"You’ve also got to look at it as after my Liverpool career, what was I supposed to do? I still wanted to play football and that was the only club that really showed interest.
"As much as I know it hurts them, I hope one day they will [forgive it]. They probably never will.
"That’s football, everybody has their opinions. I loved Leeds but I also loved Galatasaray."
