Barcelona plot £22m swoop for Liverpool star after Brendan Rodgers' sacking
Philippe Coutinho was brought to Liverpool by Brendan Rodgers from Inter Milan
BARCELONA are reportedly plotting a £22m swoop for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho played in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Everton yesterday, which was overshadowed by the sacking of Brendan Rodgers just hours afterwards.

Rodgers signed Coutinho for £8.5million from Inter Milan in January 2013, but the Brazilian has been attracting interest from Spain.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid were linked with the 23-year-old this summer.

And according Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona are preparing a £22.1million swoop - with their transfer embargo ending in January.

Coutinho has publicly committed his future to Liverpool, having been tipped as a potential Barca signing by international colleague Neymar.

"I am totally focussed on Liverpool," he said. "I heard what Neymar said but I want to do well with Liverpool. I am happy here and I hope this season will go well for us.

"Of course it is a nice thing that he said. Everyone knows he's my friend but I am here and focused on Liverpool to help them do good things on the pitch, starting with beating Everton."

Neymar had said: "I see many Brazilian players with quality today.

"But one that I like and I think I could play here is Coutinho. He has the style of Barcelona."
