Steven Gerrard: What I really think about Liverpool sacking manager
Steven Gerrard said he was gutted when Roy Hodgson was sacked as Liverpool manager
STEVEN GERRARD claims he was "gutted" when Liverpool sacked former manager Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson took the reins at Anfield immediately after Rafa Benitez left the club in the summer of 2010 but lasted less than a season in the job.

Gerrard concedes the timing probably was't right for Hodgson to come in and he was replaced by Kenny Dalglish with the club languishing in mid-table the following January.

Gerrard would later work with the 68-year-old, who handed him the England captaincy as national team boss in 2012.
And the Kop legend thinks things might have worked out at Liverpool in different circumstances.

"I was gutted when he left Liverpool," Gerrard told BT Sport.
"I thought the timing of him taking the Liverpool job was probably wrong because a lot of the fans wanted Dalglish in and Dalglish is the king at Liverpool.

"I thought Roy paid the price for that, coming in before Kenny.
"I think if it had been reversed and if he came in after him, he maybe would have got a bit more time and the fans would have had a bit more respect for him.
"He’s certainly a top coach, a good person and someone who works very hard to make sure his teams are hard to beat, so I’ve got a lot of respect for him."
