Ronald Koeman insists he has not discussed extending his contract at Southampton |
SOUTHAMPTON manager Ronald Koeman has denied reports that he is set to sign a new contract with the club.
Koeman has 18 months left on his current deal at St Mary's and has been strongly linked with the Dutch national job should under-fire coach Danny Blind get the chop.
However, the Dutchman was more keen to focus on Sunday's visit of Manchester United and insists no discussions about a new deal have taken place.
"It's too early to discuss that," he said.
"I had several meetings with the board in the last two weeks but not about my contract.
"I don't think it's the right moment to talk about it. There's still a long time to go. Maybe something for after the summer, not this season."
Koeman welcomes fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal to the south coast on Sunday, while former player Morgan Schneiderlin makes his first return to the club since joining United.
Schneiderlin incensed fans by trying to force a move to Tottenham last summer before getting his wish to leave a year later.
But the Saints boss is hoping he gets a good reception from the supporters.
"I hope the reaction to him is a positive one.
"He did everything for the club, he had a great time in Southampton, he was ready for the next step," Koeman added.
