Saido Berahino will not join the West Brom squad for training until next Monday |
SAIDO BERAHINO has been granted extra time off from training in the wake of the transfer fiasco yesterday.
West Brom's 22-year-old striker was expected to leave the club for Tottenham in a deadline day deal.
Spurs made two bids for the player but Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace rejected the offers.
Berahino subsequently hit out on social media, stating he "will never play (for) Jeremy Peace."
He will now meet with West Brom manager Tony Pulis and other club officials on Friday.
It was thought a £25million fee would have been enough to force Albion's hand but Peace revealed Spurs tried to get Berahino "cheapy" as yesterday's 6pm deadline drew near.
West Brom's refusal to budge caused Berahino's outburst and it is not known what repercussions, if any, he will receive at Friday's meeting.
As for Peace, the chairman released a statement yesterday on the day's events.
"I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda," said Peace.
"Tottenham's offers failed substantially to reflect Saido's true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer.
"Saido has been unsettled to the point where our head coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games.
"We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode."
