Romelu Lukaku heaps praise on team-mate Gareth Barry

ROMELU LUKAKU has praised Everton's "unsung hero" Gareth Barry for his influence during games.

 

The former Aston Villa and Manchester City midfielder Barry reached his 700th career appearances against Tottenham at the weekend.

And Lukaku has claimed the Toffees' current crop of youngsters are reaping the benefit of the 34-year-old's experience.

"Gareth is fundamental to our team," the Belgian striker said.

"He's the one who coaches all the young players around him as the game is going on.

"He calms us down when we're in possession and he knows when we need to play quicker, so he's very important to our team."

Everton go up against Premier League champions Chelsea after the international break, where he'll face his former club.
