Manchester United tried to sign Arsenl target Karim Benzema, according to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

United are Real were locked in talks this summer over David De Gea, who saw his dream moved to the Bernabeu fall through on deadline day.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was keen on landing Madrid striker Benzema, but it appears United were also keen on the Frenchman.

"We know that United showed interest in Bale, Benzema and Varane," Perez told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

Arsenal were reportedly interested in Gareth Bale before he joined Tottenham.

The Real ace scored the winner last night as Wales beat Cyprus 1-0 to put Chris Coleman's side on the brink of qualifying for Euro 2016.

But according to the Press Association, Bale could have joined the Gunners with Wenger tracking him along with United before his £7million move from Southampton to Spurs in 2007.

Mathieu Debuchy has revealed he considering quitting Arsenal this summer.

Debuchy has lost his place to youngster Hector Bellerin after struggling with injuries following his move from Newcastle last year.

"It is difficult," the 30-year-old told French magazine L'Equipe. "Even if I had not played a lot last season, in my head I would return to start after my recovery. But, at the Community Shield against Chelsea, Wenger chose him, Bellerin.

"It was a surprise and a disappointment. Let's say it [leaving] crossed my mind. But I want to be at Arsenal and to take my place."
