RIO FERDINAND is adamant Manchester United have needed Anthony Martial for a while.
The 19-year-old French striker signed for the Red Devils in a deal worth £36million.
Martial has already netted four times since moving to Old Trafford.
And Ferdinand believes Martial is just what United need.
"Martial creates space behind him," Ferdinand told BT Sport.
"Manchester United have missed him. They need someone who threatens in behind.
"Martial has surprised me. I didn't know he had this kind of stuff in his game.
"And with Mata and Rooney pinging balls into his path, they will help finish teams off."
