Chris Smalling celebrates with manager Louis van Gaal after the game |
CHRIS SMALLING has praised his Manchester United team-mates after they fought back from a goal down to beat Wolfsburg in the Champions League.
The England international scored the winner when he poked the ball home after a delightful flick by Juan Mata.
Despite late pressure from the Germans, United held on for the victory to get their first points of the group stage.
And Smalling believes Louis van Gaal's side fully deserved their win.
He said: "We started up against it after conceding a goal.
"But we created a lot of chances and deserved the win. We didn't give them too many chances. We created some ourselves which gave us a deserved victory.
"We knew they played with two wingers which gave us space, Anthony Martial's pace used that well."
