No new Resident Evil 7 update but Capcom did reveal their new online shooter for PS4 |
RESIDENT Evil hasn't been announced by Capcom at the Tokyo Game Show but fans have been introduced to Umbrella Corps.
Umbrella Corps is a new competitive shooter for PS4 and PC, set in the Resident Evil universe and will feature team-based matches where players can compete online in a variety of close quarter battle modes.
Capcom describe these multiplayer battles as short and brutal and designed for quick and engaging play. The game will feature an analog aim and cover system, allowing for more precise control when firing from cover.
Revealed during Sony's PlayStation press conference in TGS, Capcom celebrates its 20th Anniversary with new titles and remakes of previous Resident Evil titles.
A new trailer provided by Capcom reveal Umbrella Corps to include both first-person and third-person options, players equipped with gun and grenade based weaponry, as well as specialised gear such as a hook blade.
Attendees of the Tokyo Game Show can try out Umbrella Corps, making its playable debut at the event this week. The first demo will include two teams facing off in a 3 vs. 3 set-up of the One Life Deathmatch mode.
A description of the mode reads: "In the One Life Deathmatch mode, players must achieve their main objective to take down the other team without any option to re-spawn.
"One life per round is all a player gets as they must not only face the enemy team but also contend with classic Resident Evil enemies such as zombies that populate each map. Though these can be added threats, they can also be used to a player's advantage if strategically used to hinder the other team."

It seems with this latest announcement, Capcom have revealed their plans for the future of the Resident Evil series.
By splitting the genre into as many pieces as possible, the developer looks set to try and offer fans as much different kinds of gameplay as possible based in the Resi universe.
For those wanting survival horror, they can turn to the upcoming remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Zero, while those liking the feel of the Resident Evil 4 combat system can now try their hand at this new shooter.
It's something that has needed to be tackled, what with the fanbase's views on how future Resident Evil games should feel and play.
Is Umbrella Corps a game hardcore fans of the series will enjoy? It will probably only appeal to some but it does give rise to the idea that Capcom will now have their hands free to do what they want with Resident Evil 7.
However, something that is even more important is how Resident Evil 7 plays out, following the fallout from the last title in the main series, what will Capcom do?
It was made clear that a mix of campaigns from the game's past and present wasn't received warmly so making it fresh again could take some doing.
Umbrella Corp's expected digital release date is for early 2016 in both Europe and North America, as well as Japan, costing $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99.
