Resident Evil 2 for Xbox One and PS4 has been confirmed by Capcom |
CAPCOM have announced that they are finally ready to remake Resident Evil 2 in shiny HD graphics for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Fans have been waiting to find out for years if Resident Evil 2 would ever make the expanding list of titles being put together for the new-gen consoles.
It always seemed strange in it absence, but Capcom have revealed that the new project will be piloted by Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, producer of the Resident Evil HD Remaster with the Capcom R&D Division 1 team.
A special video released today confirmed that Resident Evil 2 was finally been given the nod due to the success of past projects and the well of fan support to see it come to fruition.
Hirabayashi explained: "You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen... until now!
"We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you've been waiting for."
Even though it seems it's just another Remastering announcement in a long succession, modernising a game released in 1998 will be great to see.
Fans saw something similar with the release of Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, a game that saw the return of 1997's Rupture Farms title.
It seems the popularity shown in a recent project undertaken by Italian developers to remake the game on PC, Resident Evil 2 Reborn, played a role in getting the Capcom project greenlit.
An official Capcom issued statement to VideoGamer confirms: "We're pleased to confirm that Resident Evil 2 has been approved for development," a representative said.
"As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don't have any additional information or assets to share at this time.
"For now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we've received on this title. We're looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for."
Hirabyashi commented: “It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved.
"The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want.”
