NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you all the latest news from Anfield.
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has taken delight in the fact that Liverpool will be missing Phillipe Coutinho this weekend.
The Reds travel to Old Trafford tomorrow (5.30pm kick-off), with Coutinho banned after his sending off in the 3-0 loss to West Ham at Anfield.
And Herrera believes it could give them the edge.
"It’s true their best player, Coutinho, cannot play," he said.
Elsewhere, Fabio Borini appeared to take a parting swipe at manager Brendan Rodgers.
Borini completed a £10million switch to Sunderland in the summer after failing to nail down a first-team spot on Merseyside.
But the Italian claims his failure to settle was not his fault and seemed to suggest his former boss is to blame.
“It was very difficult (at Liverpool)," he said.
“It didn’t work out. Not because of me, but because of someone else."
Fabio Borini says he is not to blame for becoming a Liverpool flop |
Borini is one of a number of players to have left the club this summer, with Steven Gerrard the most high profile.
Club legend Gerrard's future has recently come under scrutiny as some suggest he might make a loan switch back in January.
And while that appears to be unlikely, he revealed he might have been tempted to stay if he was offered a coaching position before his exit to LA Galaxy in the United Sates.
"What would have kept me at Liverpool into this season was the chance of shadowing Brendan Rodgers and his staff as well as playing," Gerrard told The Daily Mail.
"Those ideas were only mentioned to me after I had announced I was leaving.
"Liverpool replaced coaches Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh in the summer, so they were looking for a new No 2, or No 3 or No 4.
"I would have been tailor-made to fill one of these roles, as well as making myself available as a squad player.
"I could have been a good squad player, a good sub, as well as getting management experience that money can’t buy."
