Russell Martin celebrates with Nathan Redmond after scoring the first goal for Norwich |
LIVERPOOL'S early season struggles continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich.
Before the match, manager Brendan Rodgers had appealed for patience but with no wins in four matches, the pressure on the Ulsterman could not be higher.
Daniel Sturridge made a surprise start alongside Christian Benteke but the duo failed to click in the first half.
Both sides struggled to create meaningful chances and they went in level at half time.
In an attempt to change things up, Danny Ings was brought on by Rodgers in place of Christian Benteke.
And the Englishman made an immediate impression, latching onto Alberto Moreno's pass before slotting past John Ruddy.
But Norwich got themselves level not long after when Mignolet punched the ball away at a corner but Russell Martin coolly flicked home to draw the visitors level.
Sturridge's comeback lasted 62 minutes before he was taken off and Philippe Coutinho became the man most likely to grab the winner.
However, he missed a golden opportunity to be the matchwinner, shooting straight at Ruddy when clean through.
Liverpool put pressure on Norwich's defence but were unable to break through and boos rang out at Anfield after the final whistle.
