Apple has slashed the price of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus ahead of the release of newer models |
APPLE has cut the price of its iPhone smartphones, ahead of the release of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus later this month.
Apple has finally unveiled its new iPhone.
CEO Tim Cook took to the stage in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, in San Francisco to take the wraps off its two new models.
The Apple iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus sport new pressure sensitive 3D Touch technology, an updated camera and 4K video support.
So where does that leave last year's best-selling iPhone 6?
Apple quietly removed the iPhone 5C from its line up |
Apple has dropped almost £100 from its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus price tag.
The iPhone 6 now starts at £459 SIM-free for a 16GB model. That's down from the £539 it was last week.
The iPhone 6S takes its place at the latter price tag.
And its the same story with the pocket-stretching iPhone 6 Plus.
The Apple phablet now starts from £539 SIM-free with some 16GB of internal storage. Thats' down from £619 when it launched last year.
Contract prices also appear to be dropping – with some mobile operators offering the device for just £29 per month.
The older iPhone 6 may not have all the latest bells, whistles and 3D Touch technology – but it is still a beautifully built device with a stellar camera.
With the same screen resolution, battery life and a thinner and lighter design than Apple's latest handset, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are well worth considering if you are due an upgrade.
Sadly, if you were hoping for a everything-must-go price cut to Apple's iPhone 5C device, you'll be disappointed.
Apple has quietly withdrawn the colourful phone from sale leaving just the 6S, 6 and iPhone 5S in its current smartphone line-up.
If you want to know more about Apple's new iPhone 6S
Apple also used its annual iPhone to debut a new Upgrade program.
The new contract system, which will be US only for the first few months before rolling out to other countries, allows you to upgrade your iPhone every year.
Your mobile phone contract is sorted through Apple, but you can pick any mobile provider you like, and the iPhone you get will be unlocked – allowing you to change carriers at a later date.
The Upgrade Program comes with AppleCare+ included for the duration of your contract.
You also spread the cost of the iPhone over the course of two years, starting from $32per month for the iPhone 6S, some £20.
And when the iPhone 7 comes out, you can upgrade to the new handset at no extra cost.
