Wenger reveals why Giroud was left out of Arsenal's starting XI against Newcastle
vier Giroud was replaced by Theo Walcott in today's game
OLIVIER GIROUD was dropped to the bench for Arsenal's trip to St James' Park by Arsene Wenger.

The Frenchman was replaced by Theo Walcott leading the line for the Gunners as Wenger confirmed he had to adapt his tactics to cope with Newcastle's style of play.
"Yes of course, they [Giroud and Walcott] have different qualities and sometimes in our game plan I will use Walcott and others I use Giroud. They are both great strikers so let’s hope I’ve made the right decision."

Mesut Ozil was also left out of Arsenal's squad following a minor knee injury.
The German midfielder hasn't played at Newcastle since his arrival in the summer of 2013.
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny returned to the side following a back injury but Per Mertesacker was left out due to illness.

Wenger made three changes from the side that featured against Liverpool with Koscielny, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott coming in for Calum Chambers, Ozil and Olivier Giroud.
Newcastle gave Florian Thauvin his first Premier League start and Wenger admitted Steve McClaren's side have added quality this summer.
"I believe that Newcastle has many new players who are quality," he added. They showed that against Manchester United. We just have to focus on ourselves and try and come home with three points."
