William Shatner will play captain one last time on Star Trek: The Cruise
TREKKIE HEAVEN: William Shatner is at the helm of the first ever official Star Trek six-day cruise, sailing from Miami in January 2017.
 
Boldly going where no cruise ship has gone before, luxury liner the Norwegian Pearl will set sail on a Star Trek-themed voyage to Mexico and the Bahamas.
Shatner is the star guest onboard the six-day trip, and revealed his joy with typical modesty.

 “I am excited to be the host of Star Trek: The Cruise,” says Shatner.

“When I was told that this was the first authorized Star Trek cruise and part of the 50th anniversary celebration, I just knew that my participation would be something that our fans would enjoy.

"It should be a lot of fun.”

The cruise features a host of stars from the franchise
While Idris Elba prepares to play the baddie in the new Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, the legends of the past will be making a very different journey.
The organisers of Star Trek: The Cruise promise six days and nights of unique experiences including dramatic performances, comedy shows and concerts by iconic Star Trek actors.

William Shatner, the original captain of the Starship Enterprise, will be joined on board by other famous faces from the franchise.

Star Trek: Next Generation's star-crossed lovers Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis will host the mysterious 'Love Letters' event during the voyage, while Denise Crosby who played Security Chief Tasha Yar will demonstrate her tap dancing skills.
 
Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Picardo who played the ship's doctor will be hosting 'Star Trek Family Feud.'
Passengers can also attend Q's Masquerade Ball, presided over by John de Lancie, who played the omnipotent character in Next Generation and Voyager.

Over two thousand die-hard fans of are expected to snap up tickets for the cruise, which start at $995 (£630).
It is the first ever such event endorsed by CBS, the makers of the legendary sci fi show.
 
As well as the events featuring stars from the Star Trek Tv shows and films, the website also promises "intimate speaking engagements with leading scientists, influencers and experts."

Whatever that means.

One thing is sure, Star Trek fans around the world are going to be scrabbling to beam aboard the Trekkie event of a lifetime.
