Tim Sherwood claims Christian Benteke is of no interest to him now he has moved to Liverpool |
CHRISTIAN BENTEKE has been accused of 'dreaming' about his exit from Aston Villa.
The striker said Villa boss Tim Sherwood questioned why he would want to go to Liverpool when they would not suit his style.
Benteke moved for £32.5m last month but also said Sherwood had taken too much credit for his goal form at the end of last season, which helped saved Villa from relegation.
But Sherwood said: "I can't remember ever saying that. He must have dreamt that one.
"I took no credit - people gave me it. I didn't ask for it. It's up to Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool to decide how they want to play Christian.
"He is of no interest to me now. I am looking at the players we have here and looking ahead."
First up, is today's potentially tricky trip to newboys Bournemouth and Sherwood said: "It's going to be a carnival atmosphere there and if you were going to pick a side not to play in the first game it would probably be them.
"Eddie Howe has done very, very well and he's deserves the opportunity in the Premier League.
"But this is a new dawn for us and I'm excited about it. We've got a few new players and that brings a different kind of pressure."
And Howe has revealed his Bournemouth players are not going to change their style.
"We feel the team's ready. Now we've just got to go out and prove that we're good enough," he said.
"I'm not saying we're going to score 98 goals but we're going to go at it the same way in terms of how we approach the games.
"We're going to be brave and we're going to try to take games to teams. That's our way, that's what we've become accustomed to, that's what our players expect us to do."
