Tottenham's deadline-day agreement to sign Fulham striker Moussa Dembele was called off at the last minute because of a disagreement over a loan move.
Dembele, 19, was all set to join Spurs on a permeant switch yesterday.
The Frenchman had passed a medical and agreed personal terms, with his fee set at around £6million.
But The Independent claim Fulham pulled the plyg on the move after Spurs refused to meet their demands to loan Dembele back to Craven Cottage for the rest of the season.
Fulham could be dragged into a Championship relegation battle later this season and Dembele, with 11 goals to his name, is seen as vital to their survival hopes.
Fulham, it is claimed, are now likely to offload the ace at the end of the season.

Spurs ace Eric Dier insists the club remain in the title race and will not buckle under the pressure to at least make the top four.
Sours sit fourth in the Premier League, just five points off leaders Leicester, with Arsenal and Manchester City also gunning for the championship.
"There was pressure from the beginning of the season and obviously with us being up there and fighting for everything there will be added pressure, but we're all enjoying ourselves at the moment," Dier told the club's website.
"I don't think we play with pressure, we enjoy ourselves and we play freely.
"We're a young team, we express ourselves and hopefully we'll continue to do that."

Leicester host Liverpool tonight while Arsenal welcome Southampton to the Emirates Stadium and City travel to Sunderland.
Spurs have lost just two league games since their opening-day defeat at Manchester United.
And Dier is confident of three points at Carrow Road tonight.
"We've had a couple of slip-ups like Newcastle and Leicester at home but in a way those losses have helped us because we've responded and gone on good runs," he said.

Alex Pritchard has revealed he could have signed for another club on transfer deadline day before agreeing a switch to West Brom.
The Tottenham midfielder, 22, yesterday agreed a six-month loan to the Baggies.
And he explained why he went through with the deal.
"It's been a hectic few hours - I was close to going elsewhere - but when this came about I didn't hesitate to come here," said Pritchard.
"I'm here and excited to get going.
"I spoke to Tony Pulis and coaches and was told to do my best, work hard and make an impression.
"I'm an attacking player, I like to get on the ball, make things happen and have an eye for goal.
"I can play on the wing or centrally - it's a dream to play in the Premier League and I hope I get that chance."
