NEWCASTLE will have to pay £10million if they want to make Seydou Doumbia's loan deal permanent, according to reports.
The Magpies swooped to close a deal for the 28-year-old on transfer deadline day.
Doumbia has struggled to settle at Roma having joined the Italian club from CSKA Moscow for £11million in January 2015.
But his move was not a happy one and the Ivorian striker was loaned back to Russia after just seven months.
And now Steve McClaren is hoping Doumbia can find Newcastle a more palatable home.
Newcastle have paid £500,000 for the player's services for the rest of the season with an option to buy.
And Sky Italia are claiming that option comes in at £10m, £1m less than Roma originally paid for the player.
And while the Premier League outfit will have the rest of the season to weigh up their options, McClaren seems confident he has the right man for the job.
"Seydou is a natural goalscorer, someone who has done it in the Champions League and has played at the highest level," McClaren said.
"I watched the Champions Leagues games he played against Manchester City and Manchester United, and he looks a very good player.
"He's someone who plays on the shoulder of defenders, runs in behind and gets on the end of things.
"We have been looking for that type, and so are delighted to have Seydou on board."
