OLD TRAFFORD is set to be sectioned off in areas after ticket sales for Manchester United’s Europa League tie with Midtjylland have disappointed.
According to the Daily Mail, the Sir Alex Ferguson stand, which holds 26,000 seats, is due to be cordoned off as a result of the low demand from supporters.
The second leg tie in the last 32 of the Europa League is United’s next home game in all competitions, scheduled for February 25.
The lack of attraction though without Champions League football and heading to Old Trafford on a Thursday night clearly hasn’t appealed to the majority.
United have even attempted to draw more fans to the fixture by reducing ticket prices by 25% but are wary of low figures.
Louis van Gaal’s side have earned a negative reputation this season too for their style of football, especially at Old Trafford, that’s seen a real lapse in attacking incentive.
United would be expected to comfortably see off their Danish opponents at home, but fans will also be aware of the fact Arsenal visit three days later, meaning a weakened side could be fielded on the Thursday too.
The top tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand are unavailable for purchase on United’s website, and those who have already bought tickets in that area are being moved.
Van Gaal’s major focus will be on securing a Champions League spot for next season, with fourth being targeted as a minimum, but a Europa League trophy would also secure them a place in the competition.
