League Two boss follows Tottenham coach in rejecting Manchester United move
Michael Appleton has rejected the chance to return to Manchester United

United saw the January transfer window slam shut last night without making a single signing.

But it appears the Red Devils have failed with two moves to bring in a new face to re-launch their dwindling youth set-up.

The Times report Oxford United boss Michael Appleton rejected an offer to return to Old Trafford at the end of the new season as academy supremo.

Appleton, 40, was born in Manchester and came through the ranks at United, but is said to have rejected a move back and will stay at Oxford and negotiate a new contract.

It is claimed United have also been snubbed by Tottenham's head of coaching and player development John McDermott.

United are said to have fallen behind many of their Premier League rivals in developing players - having once led the way with the famed Class of '92.
