THOMAS VERMAELEN has emerged as a summer transfer target for Chelsea, according to reports.
Vermaelen has endured a tough time since making his move to Barcelona from Arsenal in 2014.
The Belgium international has been plagued by injuries and has featured only six times in La Liga this season.
But according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Blues could offer him a lifeline and bring him back to the Premier League.
It’s understood they will make a move for the 30-year-old over the summer following the news John Terry will be leaving the club.
The Chelsea captain revealed yesterday he would not be receiving a new deal, predicting the Blues would bring in some new faces at the back.
“I would have loved to stay but the club's moving in a different direction - No doubt they'll sign one or two great centre-backs,” he said.
