MICROSOFT has unveiled a slew of clever new features for Windows 10's voice assistant, Cortana.
Microsoft has offered a glimpse at some of the new features and functionality coming to its latest operating system, Windows 10.
Cortana will now automatically remind you of any promises or deadlines you emailed to your co-workers or friends.
The new feature was developed in collaboration with Microsoft Research and lets voice assistant Cortana remind you to follow-up on the tasks you said you would do.
Cortana Group Program Manager, Marcus Ash posted: "People often make promises to do things in email but may forget about them as the days go by and emails pile up.
"As we looked at places where Cortana could continue to make life easier, we wanted to focus on how we could make Cortana more proactive when it comes to reminders."
The news comes days after sources inside Microsoft confirmed the US technology firm had shelved some features planned for its next major operating system update.
When the update rolls out, Cortana will be able to see, for example, when you have promised to report back to your boss by the end of the week.
As the date approaches, the voice assistant will prompt you about your upcoming report.
Thanks to the new Cortana apps on iOS and Android, these notifications will be available on mobile, too.
Microsoft has also improved the way Cortana manages your calendar appointments.
The digital assistant will now action upcoming appointments in a different manner, based on your habits.
"So if you are a morning person like me, and you get a meeting request come through for 7pm, Cortana will alert you that you have a meeting outside of your regular times so that you can take action quickly to move it to a better time," Mr Ash explains in the Microsoft blog.
"The same for last minute meetings – say it’s 8pm and your boss has sent you an urgent meeting request for 7am the next day – Cortana will alert you that there’s a meeting that may need your attention, so you can adjust your alarm and morning routine accordingly and stay on top of your day."
Microsoft introduced a slew of new functionality to its voice assistant last year, as part of the 1511 November Update to Windows 10.
Cortana was given the ability to book an Uber taxi to their next appointment, make and receive text messages and calls.
Microsoft has previously stated an ambition to get one billion devices across the globe running Windows 10 within two years of the operating system's release.
