MANCHESTER UNITED and Louis van Gaal's 'boring' style of football and lack of goals at Old Trafford have shot a sleepy fan to overnight fame.
A sleeping fan was caught sleeping at Old Trafford |
The snoozy supporter was filmed dozing off during United's narrow 1-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United on Saturday.
He was spotted dropping off his seat as Van Gaal's team struggled to make it through to the next round with Wayne Rooney's last-minute penalty sparing the Red Devils' blushes.
Footage of the fan's hilarious snooze was shot by Twitter user Irish Gaz, from Sale, who uploaded the video to Twitter.
Gaz, 40, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I spotted him. It was actually my daughter who pointed him out to me. He kept falling asleep and leaning forwards into her seat, and so she told me he couldn’t keep his eyes open.
“One minute he was wide awake and acting as if nothing had happened, and then the next second his eyes were going. It was hilarious.
“But it does say something about the performances when fans can’t even stay awake. I follow the club home and away and they have been pretty dismal recently.”
Since being posted online, the footage has been retweeted thousands of times and picked up by media organisations around the world.
Gaz added: “A number of people said that they guy must have been drunk, but I heard him speak and he clearly wasn’t.
“He was well spoken and well dressed, just clearly not loving what he was watching unfold on the pitch.”
This wasn't the first time a United fan has been caught nodding off with a fan famously being captured sleeping just after Javier Hernandez scored against Newcastle in December 2012.
