STEVE MCCLAREN has confirmed he is looking to add to Newcastle's strike force in January.
Newcastle have struggled for goals this season, with strikers Ayoze Perez, Papiss Cisse and Aleksandar Mitrovic all lacking consistency.
The Magpies have also been without Emmanuel Riviere, who has been sidelined all season with a knee injury.
But St James' Park boss McClaren hopes to turn his side's season around with the arrival of a new forward during the winter window.
Newcastle currently find themselves in the relegation zone after winning just four games in their opening 19 outings, despite spending in excess of £48million in the summer.
McClaren has been reserved on his January plans, but asked if he could understand the desperation of fans, he replied: "Absolutely. Absolutely.
"I understand fully where you're coming from, believe you me. I think I've said enough to say that we do need more goals and that we're working behind the scenes to address that."
