WATFORD could scupper Manchester United’s attempts to sign Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson by offering a deal for one of his team-mates.
United are thought to be preparing a £35million bid for Anderson.
The 22-year-old was a transfer target of manager Louis van Gaal’s last summer but United decided against a bid during the off-season.
But after a disappointing first half of their campaign, Van Gaal is reportedly set to go back in for the Brazilian.
However, Sky Sport Italia claim Lazio could back out of a deal if Watford make firm their interest in forward Keita Balde Diao.
According to the report, the Rome side would prefer to lose 20-year-old Diao rather than star man Anderson.
Watford are said to be eyeing a club record £18.3m swoop for Diao, who has made 15 appearances for Lazio this season.
Combined, Anderson and Diao have started just two games together this season, with the latter being used mainly as a substitute.
Watford have relied heavily on their two strikers, Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney, for goals this season.
The pair have scored 20 of Watford’s 24 top-flight goals this season and manager Quique Flores is expected to add new recruits during this transfer window.
As for United, Van Gaal has also suggested he is ready to sign a new striker in January.
