MOHAMED ELNENY’S protracted move to Arsenal could yet be banjaxed by paperwork as the club battle their way through all the administrative red tape
Last week Arsene Wenger said he hoped to announce his signing from Basel “within the next few days” after the clubs agreed a fee of £7.4m before the transfer window had even opened. He reiterated at the weekend that the hoped the deal would be completed within 24 hours.
However, the Egypt international needs Home Office approval and despite the club’s lawyers working round the clock, Wenger’s is now only keeping his fingers crossed for positive news by the end of the week – if at all.
“As long as it’s not definitely signed you have to be cautious, but I’m optimistic,” Wenger said.
“The situation should be sorted out. There’s a lot of work permit problems and special paperwork to do and the visa. We hope to finalise it this week.
“I think this week it can happen, we are positive.”
