GARETH BALE would not leave Real Madrid for Manchester United "in a million years", claims former Red Devil David May.
The Wales international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this month as Louis van Gaal looks to add pace and creativity to his flanks.
But May is confident the Dutchman will fail in his Bale pursuit after his side dropped out of the Champions League and into the Europa League.
“You hear it every day where Bale is coming but never in a million years is it going to happen,” May, who spent nine years at United, told 888sport.com.
“Don’t get me wrong I would love Gareth Bale to come to Old Trafford. But is it going to happen? I can’t see it. Not right now.
“I know with the money involved these days you can pay way over the top to make sure you get these great players.
“But would they come without Champions League? It becomes a huge burden if United don't get in the Champions League.”
