MANCHESTER UNITED boss Louis van Gaal looks 'desperate', according to former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann.
The Red Devils have come under fire for their recent performances and Van Gaal even admitted he was 'bored and angry' this week.
The players finally appeared to turn up last night against Newcastle, scoring an unprecedented three times.
However, they were pegged back by Steve McClaren's men, drawing 3-3, and Hamann thinks this is a sign they're an 'average' team.
"Good teams, we’ve seen that with Manchester City and especially Arsenal this year, find a way to win,” he told talkSPORT.
"Average teams find a way not to win, and this is where United are at the moment.
"It doesn’t matter how they play, they can’t win games – or not enough games on a consistent basis – and this is why they're where they are.
“I don’t think they will finish in the top four because I’ve got major, major worries."
And Van Gaal's post-match response to the 3-3 result with Newcastle shows just how 'desperate' he is as a manager, claims Hamann.
"The manager comes out after and says ‘see, I’ve been right because we defended well, we need one more goal than the opposition but today we score three goals and still didn’t win’," he added.
“He is still trying to defend the way they have played in recent weeks and to me it all looks a bit desperate.”
