NEWCASTLE and Sunderland look set to battle for the signature of Leeds United club captain Sol Bamba, according to reports.

Newcastle and Sunderland set for battle to sign Leeds United star
Sol Bamba has been told he can leave Leeds United

Bamba only signed permanently for Leeds in June after impressing in a loan spell from Palermo at the end of last season.
But the Ivory Coast international has now been told he can leave the Championship club this month.
And according to the Daily Star Newcastle and Sunderland are interested in a £2million deal for the defender.
The 31-year-old was appointed skipper by former Leeds boss Uwe Rosler, but has lost his spot in the side under current manager Steve Evans to Liam Cooper and Giuseppe Bellusci.

Evans insisted earlier this week that Bamba was going nowhere.
"As far as I am concerned, Sol Bamba is not going anywhere,” he told BBC Radio Leeds. “He is part of what we are trying to do, and we need competition.”
But owner Massimo Cellino has now agreed to let him cut short his spell at Elland Road.
Championship club Wolves are also interested in signing the defender.
