MICROSOFT looks set to make 4G mobile data hassle-free for Windows 10 users, thanks to a new app and in-house SIM card.

Microsoft has created its own SIM card for Windows 10 devices.

The software firm is testing a new mobile app which allows Windows 10 devices to switch between a variety of networks' data connections without a contract.

Microsoft plans were revealed after the US technology company published an app entitled Cellular Data to its Windows 10 Store.

"The Cellular data app allows you to connect to a trusted nationwide mobile data network using only your Microsoft account," the listing for the free Windows app reveals.

"Connect with – and pay for – a mobile data plan on your Windows 10 device using only your Microsoft account information. 

"That means no fixed contract and no long term commitments to a mobile network operator. Now you can buy and use mobile data at your own convenience."

The Windows 10 app says it requires a "Microsoft SIM card" to work, although the Redmond firm has yet to announced any official plans for the upcoming service.

Microsoft does not reveal where its network will be available, "service is available in some markets and offers are for domestic plans only – international roaming offers will be available soon."

Customers can purchase mobile data from their Windows 10 device settings menu, using the payment details linked to their Microsoft Account.

The news comes after a slew of new statistics from Microsoft revealed the US firm was collecting more data from its Windows 10 users than previously thought.

Windows 10 is company's fastest growing operating system to date, blitzing past its own Windows 8 and Windows 7.

Its success could be due to Microsoft's limited upgrade offer, which means its free operating system upgrade to customers running genuine versions of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
