ZINEDINE ZIDANE has moved to reassure Manchester United target Gareth Bale that he is a "fundamental" player at Real Madrid.

Zidane has replaced Rafael Benitez as Real Madrid coach after the Spaniard was sacked on Monday following just seven months in charge.
Bale had been reportedly unhappy that Benitez - a huge supporter of the winger - had been replaced but Zidane said yesterday: "I understand Gareth may be upset at Rafa's departure, but he will be treated with affection. He's a fundamental player."
Zidane inherits a side third in La Liga and who face Roma in the Champions League last 16 next month and believes the club's drive for success will make up for his own lack of experience.

"I have clear targets and I will do everything I can to reach them," he said. "Good football has always been important here. The target is always to win the Champions League.
"I've got good feelings, even though I have never managed at this level before."
Benitez, meanwhile, left on a philosophical note, saying: "As a madridista, steeped in the traditions and values of this club, it has been an honour to work for the colours."
