MANCHESTER UNITED should have signed Charlie Austin, claims former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway.

Man Utd slammed for overlooking proven goalscorer
Charlie Austin struck against Manchester United last weekend

Austin, who scored 18 Premier League goals for Queens Park Rangers last season, joined Southampton for just £4million last week.
The striker made an immediate impact for his new team, scoring a late winner to beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

And according to Holloway, Louis van Gaal should have done more to snap up Austin who has already proven himself at the top level last term.
"Manchester United can't score for toffee. Why didn't they go in for him?" he told Sky Sports.

"I'll tell you why. Austin's not a fashionable signing, for some reason, Austin doesn't fit the criteria of one of the big wigs to buy him.
"Some players are deemed not fashionable enough to play for certain clubs. It makes me sick. Well done to Ronald Koeman for looking through all that nonsense."
