Man United in crisis: Van Gaal to resign, Mourinho releases statement, senior players talk
Louis van Gaal is under huge pressure at Manchester United

Louis van Gaal is on the brink of quitting Manchester United.

Van Gaal saw his side lose 1-0 at home to Southampton on Saturday, admitting afterwards he had let down fans.

And The Sun claim Van Gaal would rather walk than be sacked at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman is said to have held talks about his future with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward yesterday.

Jose Mourinho, a leading candidate to replace Van Gaal, has had a statement released on his behalf responding to claims he wrote a six-page letter to United outlining his suitability for the job.

The Independent on Sunday claimed Mourinho offered a 'forensic analysis' of why he should get the Red Devils post.

But Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes said: "It does not occur to anyone that a coach like Jose Mourinho can write letters to clubs offering their services."

Senior United players have been asked for their opinion on Van Gaal, according to reports.

United chief Woodward has spoken to individuals at the club following a dip in form that threatens the club's chances of playing in the Champions League next season.

Woodward is believed to be concerned the players have stopped playing for Van Gaal.
