SCHALKE general manager Horst Heldt has confirmed the German club are hoping to agree a deal to keep Liverpool target Joel Matip.

The 24-year-old Cameroon centre-back is out of contract at the end of this season and News News Blog Sport understands that Liverpool want to bring him to Anfield.
But Heldt revealed that Schalke are keen to renew his contract and that no agreement had been reached between Matip and any another club pushing for his signature.“We have agreed to an appointment [with the player’s advisor] which will take place soon,” said Heldt.“I remain in good spirits and I hope that we can convince Joel to stay at Schalke.“Concerning an agreement with another club, I know nothing.”Sky Germany reported that Liverpool have tabled a bid to sign Matip, who’s been an ever present for Schalke in the Bundesliga.
