Liverpool dealt blow as Wigan look set to win January race for non-league star
Gary Caldwell's Wigan could beat Liverpool to the signing of Dan Lavercombe

Lavercombe, 18, has attracted significant interest from Premier League and Football League sides since breaking into Torquay’s side.
Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers are among the clubs who have been keeping tabs on Lavercombe, who is a product of the Gulls Academy.

The Latics are now set to win the race to sign him but will loan him back to the National League strugglers until the end of the season.
He will then move to Lancashire and the news will be a blow to Liverpool who had high hopes of tempting him to join them.

The Reds took Lavercombe on a close-season tour of Germany with their youth team last summer just after he made his debut for The Gulls.
