JURGEN KLOPP has described Arsene Wenger as a “football maniac” and said since arriving in England his respect for the Arsenal manager has only increased.
Jurgen Klopp will come up against Arsene Wenger for the first time as Liverpool manager on Wednesday |
Liverpool manager Klopp faces Wenger at Anfield on Wednesday having confronted him previously in the Champions League with former club Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp believes Arsenal and Manchester City are the best teams in the Premier League, but is adamant Liverpool can beat the league leaders and ruin the night for a manager he has huge respect for.
“We had different results, all possible results in football, winning away, losing at home, but one thing was always the same against Arsenal: they are a good football team,” said Klopp.
“That is for sure. But they are there to beat. It is not easy, but it is possible.
“The players have their experiences of Arsenal, I have mind, but we have to find a plan for the present. In this moment we are really looking forward to it: Wednesday night, Anfield, it's good.
“My respect goes up day by day because it is really intensive working in the Premier League especially in a team with international players, too.
“He always had my biggest respect, but it is a little bit bigger now since I have been here. He has done a brilliant job what he did. He is a high quality manager one of the best in the world for sure.
“He is a football maniac in the best understanding of the way. It was always a challenge to play against him.”
