REAL MADRID have turned down an approach from Liverpool for 17-year-old Martin Odegaard, according to reports.
Odegaard joined Real from Stromsgodset in January 2015 and became one of the most high-profile teenage footballers in the world.
The Norway international, who has eight caps, made his first-team debut for the Spanish giants at home to Getafe on the final day of last season's La Liga campaign.
But he has not featured this term and has instead been playing for Real Madrid Castilla, with Los Blancos keeping him away from the first-team until the believe he is ready for action.
Reports in Spanish newspaper Marca claim Liverpool had hoped to take the midfielder on loan until the end of the season.
Jurgen Klopp had hoped to give Odegaard valuable experience in the Premier League, but Madrid apparently rejected the bid from the Reds as they want him to continue developing in the Spanish capital.
Madrid were today banned from registering players between next month and the summer of 2017.
They have been punished by FIFA's disciplinary committee for breaching regulations governing the transfer of players under the age of 18.
