The Daily Mirror have reported the Reds have agreed a deal in principle to sign Matip in the summer.
It is claimed the 24-year-old will be heading to Anfield when his contract expires at Schalke at the end of the season.
And although Klopp denied a deal was done to sign Matip, he refused to rule out a move.

Matip has made 22 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season, scoring three goals.
The versatile defender - who can also play in midfield - has 27 caps for Cameroon despite being born in Bochum, Germany.
