LOUIS VAN GAAL’S biographer insists the Dutchman will not step aside from his Manchester United job to allow Jose Mourinho to take over.
Van Gaal’s position at United is in doubt following a wretched run of form and rumours of an offer to resign.
Mourinho is arguably the leading contender to replace Van Gaal having held a long term ambition to manage United.
But Maarten Meijer, who wrote a book on Van Gaal in 2014, reckons the 64-year-old is determined to stay.
“The British media have suggested one alternative after another as replacement,” he told Manchester Evening News.
“Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola are just some of the names that have been mentioned.
“The most surprising suggestion has been Jose Mourinho.
“This is the man who was fired mid-season, after taking Chelsea to the threshold of the relegation zone.
“Van Gaal and Mourinho are friends, but he is not going to step aside voluntarily for his Portuguese colleague, or for anyone else.”
