The Reds eased past Exeter at the second time of asking with a 3-0 win at Anfield with goals from Joe Allen, Sheyi Ojo and Joao Teixeira sealing the victory. 
Tottenham got revenge against Leicester after being knocked out by the Foxes in last season's competition by securing a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium. 
Goals from Heung Son-Min and Nacer Chadli ensured Spurs advanced to the fourth round where they will travel to League One Colchester. 
 
Meanwhile, Bolton momentarily drew attention away from their financial crisis with a hard-fought 3-2 win over non-league Eastleigh with Darren Pratley scoring thew winner to spare Wanderers' blushes. 
Meanwhile, Premier League strugglers Aston Villa earned a rare win to set a date with Manchester City after goals from Ciaran Clark and Idrissa Gueye ensured Remi Garde's men saw off League Two outfit Wycombe.
