CHILE'S Copa America winning boss Jorge Sampaoli is on a Chelsea short list to become their next manager in the summer and wants to sign Alexis Sanchez.
Sampaoli, who came second in the prestigious FIFA World Coach of the Year behind Barcelona’s Luis Enrique, is marking time after quitting as Chile boss earlier in the month.
He was on Swansea City’s wish-list to replace the sacked Garry Monk but believes if he is coming to the Premier League it will be with a bigger club.
Along with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, Juventus manager Max Allegri and Italy manager Antonio Conte contact has been made with the 55-year-old Argentinian who shocked South America by leading Chile to their first major trophy last summer.
Sampaoli is learning English and would love the opportunity of moving to Stamford Bridge.
If appointed one of his first ambitious forays in the transfer market would be to go for Arsenal’s Sanchez who was a major reason behind Chile’s surprise Copa America triumph.
The Gunners would fight tooth-and-nail to keep hold of a player who has been a huge success at the Emirates since his £35million move from Barcelona in July 2014.
But if Sampaoli convinces Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich he is the right man then expect him to put in motion a huge bid for Sanchez.
